If you have Cigna health insurance and use Baptist Health in Jacksonville, there is good news: Baptist Health and Cigna are back in network.
The two organizations announced a new, multi-year agreement on September 23, 2026. It restores in-network access to Baptist Health providers, clinics, and hospitals, including Wolfson Children’s Hospital.
The announcement answers the big question — are they back in network? — but many patients still need to know what to do about appointments, care they put off, and bills from the months when Baptist was out of network. Here are the practical next steps.
I have a Baptist Health appointment. Should I keep it?
Yes. Baptist Health says to keep your scheduled appointment, procedure, or treatment unless your provider’s office contacts you directly and tells you otherwise. This includes care at Wolfson Children’s Hospital.
If you canceled or delayed care because Baptist was out of network, call your provider’s office to reschedule. That could be a doctor’s visit, screening, procedure, or follow-up appointment.
What if I received care while Baptist was out of network?
Cigna says it will reprocess claims for services received on or after June 24, 2026, using in-network benefits. Baptist Health also says claims from the out-of-network period will be handled at in-network rates, with the normal in-network patient costs applying.
That does not mean every service will be free. You may still owe a deductible, copay, or coinsurance under your specific plan. But it does mean a claim that was handled as out of network during the dispute may need to be updated.
If you received a bill or a Cigna Explanation of Benefits showing out-of-network costs:
- Check whether Cigna has issued an updated claim.
- Compare the updated claim with the bill from your provider.
- If the amounts do not match or something still looks wrong, call Cigna using the number on your insurance card.
Why does my Baptist doctor still show as out of network online?
Cigna says it may take several weeks to fully restore Baptist facilities and physicians in its systems. During that time, its online provider directory, prior authorizations, and other approvals may be slow to update.
If your doctor still appears out of network, call the number on your Cigna ID card. Ask about your exact plan, provider, facility, and service. If your care needs prior authorization, also ask your provider’s office to confirm the approval before your appointment or procedure.
Keep a record of whom you spoke with, when you called, and any reference number you receive.
Are all Cigna plans included?
Baptist Health says the new agreement includes Cigna plans with an established provider network. Its FAQ says reference-based plans are not included; those plans were not covered under the previous agreement either.
Because plans can work differently, check your specific coverage before assuming a particular doctor, facility, or service is in network. The number on your Cigna ID card is the best starting point for questions about your plan.
Does the agreement include Wolfson Children’s Hospital?
Yes. Baptist Health specifically says the agreement includes Wolfson Children’s Hospital. If your child’s care was postponed during the dispute, contact the provider’s office about getting back on the schedule.
Do I need to change my health insurance plan now?
The new agreement restores access to Baptist Health for included Cigna plans, but a provider network is only one part of choosing coverage. Your doctors, prescriptions, monthly premium, deductible, and costs when you need care all matter.
If you were considering changing plans because Baptist was out of network, it’s worth reviewing your options again with the new agreement in mind. Before making a decision, verify the providers you need under each specific plan — especially if an online directory hasn’t yet caught up.
For Jacksonville employers, the agreement may also affect how your current group plan or renewal options fit your employees’ needs. We can help you review your group benefits, compare available coverage options, and look at the overall cost to your business and team.

Frequently asked questions
When did Cigna and Baptist Health come back in network? The new multi-year agreement was announced on September 23, 2026.
Is Wolfson Children’s Hospital included? Yes. Baptist Health specifically names Wolfson Children’s Hospital in the agreement.
Will my old out-of-network bills be fixed? Cigna says it will reprocess claims for services on or after June 24, 2026 at in-network benefits. You may still owe your normal in-network deductible, copay, or coinsurance.
I already paid an out-of-network bill. Do I get a refund? Possibly. Ask both Cigna and the provider’s billing office whether an adjustment or refund is due once the claim is reprocessed.
Why is my doctor still listed as out of network? System updates can take several weeks. Call the number on your Cigna ID card to confirm rather than relying on the online directory.
Does this cover every Cigna plan? No. Baptist Health says reference-based plans are not included — they weren’t under the previous agreement either. Check your specific plan.
Should I switch plans because of this? Not automatically. A network is one factor among several. If a network change was your only reason for considering a switch, it’s worth re-reviewing before Open Enrollment.
