Graduation season is here. 🎓 Caps, gowns, parties… and a whole new stage of life.

But while everyone is focused on what’s next, there are a few important things that often get missed—and they matter more than people realize.

If you have a graduating senior, here are three conversations worth having now:

1. Life Insurance at 18 (Yes… Really)

This is one of the most overlooked opportunities.

At 18:

  • Rates are at their lowest
  • Health is typically at its best
  • You can lock in future insurability

Most people wait until later… and by then:

  • Rates are higher
  • Health may have changed
  • Options can be limited

Even a simple plan now can create flexibility and protection long-term.

2. Health Insurance for College Students Isn’t One-Size-Fits-All

A lot of families assume the school plan is the default.

But depending on your situation, that may not be the best option.

Things to consider:

  • Is your child staying local or moving away?
  • Do they need access to specific doctors or hospitals?
  • Are they still eligible under your current plan?

3. Traveling Out of the Country? Don’t Assume You’re Covered

Graduation often means travel—study abroad, mission trips, or big celebrations.

Here’s the part most people don’t realize:

👉 Many U.S. health plans provide little to no coverage outside the country.

That can mean:

  • Paying out of pocket for care
  • No coverage for emergencies
  • No protection for medical evacuation

Travel medical insurance is typically very affordable—and incredibly important.

One More Thing Most Parents Don’t Think About…

Once your child turns 18, you no longer automatically have access to their medical or financial information.

That’s where things like a medical and financial power of attorney can matter—especially in an emergency.

This Is a Transition Moment—Don’t Skip It

Graduation isn’t just a celebration… it’s a shift into adulthood.

And this is one of those moments where a little planning now can prevent big issues later.
